Happy Tails Travel – Additional Services

By: Bridget Monrad, R.N. | Mar 03, 2017

While we specialize in air transportation for pets, some pets and their owners require additional services for relocation.

Vet and International Documentation

In considering international pet moves, there is a lot of detailed paperwork that needs to get done.  As the pet owner, you are already busy preparing all of the other aspects of your travel, so why not let us handle the paperwork for you?  These documents include a vet pack, which will include a pre-filed health certificate, application, and money order.  With the vet documents, all you need to do is have your veterinarian sign off on them, before sending the paperwork to the USDA for endorsement in the pre-paid envelope which will be provided to you.  We also help you obtain import permits for your animals, and should your pet require a stay at quarantine upon arrival, we can make the reservation for you.

Customs Clearance

Should your cat or dog be entering a foreign country, they will need to clear customs upon arrival.  At customs clearance the agents will inspect your paperwork and make sure your animal matches the description on the paperwork provided.  Some countries allow owners to clear their pets themselves, and should you choose to do this we are happy to walk you through the process so you know what will be expected of you.  Other countries require that a professional customs clearance agent is hired who clears the pets on behalf of the owner.  In these situations, we can hire a customs clearance agent for you, and then designate a meeting location to reunite you with your furry family members.  Even if the country does not require a customs clearance agent, we can still hire an agent for you if you would like.  Many times, this is easier for pet parents as the customs process can be lengthy and language barriers may be an issue.

Crates

All pets need an airline approved travel carrier/crate to fly.  These crates are different from many other crates, as they must be solid plastic and not the collapsible metal type of crate commonly found at pet stores.  We provide all clients with a detailed “crate shopping list” that outlines the requirements a travel crate must meet as well as a suggested size based on each pet’s breed and weight, as well as a list of popular brands.  If you are unable to purchase a crate yourself, and time permits, we can order a travel crate for you with the needed accessories and have it delivered to your house.

Extra large dogs occasionally require a custom crate.  These crates are made from solid wood and need to be custom built for each animal.  If your pet should require such a crate, we will provide you with instructions on how to build the crate yourself, or we can find someone to build it for you.

Transportation

Some pet owners need assistance getting their pets to and from the airport. In some cases, the closest airport is still a drive away from a pet’s new home! In these situations, we are happy to arrange short ground transportation for your pets.  While we are based in Arizona, we are an IPATA member, which is an international association for pet shipping. This means that no matter where your VIP pet family member is relocating to, we can find partner agents from within the association to provide safe and reliable transport for your cats and dogs.

Out of State Adoptions

With the internet, it is easy to fall in love with a pet up for adoption in a different state.  When this happens, a lot of people do not have the time, or money to go themselves to pick up their new family member.  We are happy to work with you and the shelter, so that you may have a successful adoption.  Should you need someone to get your pet to and from the vet for a health certificate, or taken to the airport, we can arrange these services for you so that your pet can fly home to you.

Should you need any other services on top of the ones listed above, there is a good chance Happy Tails Travel will be able to arrange those as well.  If you have any questions about the services we offer, or want to get started on your pet’s relocation, contact us today!
